Generator?!

Did the sci fi generator to go with my baby incubator. Wish I had more time to paint it, the huge pipe on the side needs to be defined a bit more D: The color balance on my monitor is also messing with me ahhhhhh.

Edit: with more shiny-ness

Avocados and Gradient maps

So I decided to practice with a gray scale and mess around with gradient maps today. Here is the original google image:

Here is my gray scale version:

Here is the gray scale with the gradient maps:

I need more work with textures and highlights, but I am going to call this done for now.

Apples

Just a quick apple paint study.

Second painted prop

One of my second props this semester. It wasn't until this painting that I realized that my monitor was extremely off in color. My painting is still a bit weak. I need to execute the materials better.

Learning how to paint...

This was my first rendered prop for this semester.

This second render was from the instructor's critique. It gave more of a warm feel that one would usually associate with a lantern. I must learn to be bold sometimes when painting and try to achieve the storytelling of the prop.

Aha! Rocks!

So I decided to use a new set of brushes to sculpt my rock besides my planar and trimadaptive brushes. After reading up and watching a few videos, I used the hpolish brush to make deeper cuts into the clay and used the crumple brush to achieve the randomize rock texture. Then I threw on a bit of noise to finish it off. I still need to figure out a bit more of the noise settings, but this is my first rock that does not look like a blob.

Rocks =/

Trying to get back to rock sculpting again. My rocks always seem a bit soft. Perhaps I should watch a tutorial on how to sculpt rocks before I try again tomorrow....

Egg scene

This intersession I will texture a modeled scene based off of Demizu Posuka's concept:

This scene is modeled in Maya2012 by Thomas Duong. You can find his blogspot here. This scene contains about 8400 tris.

From the concept, the whole overall feel is very warm with earth tones. I'd like to make it a little more saturated and spunky with yellows, oranges and cool blues. I plan to hand paint my textures.

Tileable grass texture

This was my first attempt at a tiling grass texture. But I noticed that when it is tiled, the flow of the grass seems too uniformed and a bit obvious that it is a tileable texture.

This is my second attempt at painting a tileable grass. I decided to stick to large wads of grass instead and duplicated/rotated them to give it a bit of variety. Even though the colors are a bit saturated, I like the grass pattern better than the first attempt.

Some WIP environments

Still need to tweak some designs and add color onto the environments.

First post

Figured I should start posting my works in progress here instead of tumblr. Here is a quick environment. My tumblr with my older works can be found here.
